over the years, lo recordings has taken pride in exploring a wide and broad range of sounds, genres and styles. to mark 20 years of lo recordings, we are taking a fresh and bold approach with our output to further explore the accelerating and refined developments in electronic music today. this is the first of our new phase of releases, a collaborative project between the two titans mr. g and k15. ‘a learning curve’ is exactly as the title suggests, an educational experience to un- derstand each other musically and technically, and to explore new territories and schools of thought. as avid users and fans of the mpc, as well as being extremely busy, both mr. g and k15 were given the same samples dug out of the lo recordings archives to each create a track which would remotely display their techniques and methods. this was quick- ly adopted to be the theme in a series of three releases to come out throughout the year from the pair. the results come in the form of mr. g’s mesmerising ‘navigate’ and k15’s introspective ‘the guilt within’, two very individual tracks in their own rights. ‘navigate’ is instantly recognisable as the work of its creator, armed and ready to bring the dance floor to hypnotic heights. with its rough and gritty sound, driving kick & synth stabs, and hauntingly majestic keys, we are thrown into peak of the night. on the flip, ‘the guilt within’ takes a turn to more ominous terri- tories, crafting an atmosphere on the other end of the spectrum to ‘navigate’. a beautiful and delicate journey carried along by light skipping percussion, immersive sweeping pads and a puls- ing sub which all come together to take the listener deep inside themselves.

these songs were made over the past 2 and a half years by uchi: luna (january 2016), was named after a talking cat. it s kind of a sad story. you will find some synth sounds, three different kick drums, and a couple hi-hats. it s kind of moody. you can take it as it is, or not. pride is poison (july 2014) ironically, it s titled after experiencing dosages of unhealthy relationships, though it might be the one people like the most. it s sad-ish, noisy, bouncie, and bassie? that about sums it up. inc (february 2016) is titled after the international noise conference, where it was recorded. actually it s a 3 part spliced zoom room recording of a 25min long improvisation, made in a punk bar. the argument here holds, is it really worth it to make perfect music? where is the concept of -live- in techno anyways? it doesn t matter. it s just a semi-distorted recording of a moment that meant nothing to almost no one, and yet it lives.

maeve is the record label run by three close friends, mano le tough, the drifter and baikal. for maeve’s eighth outing it has enlisted the talents of long time friend ed davenport. the record grew from a chance hearing of some new material at eds studio one night and after a brief discussion it was decided that the tracks would find a fitting home at maeve. although recently more known for his harder techno releases under the moniker inland, silver walks is some what a return to eds roots. slower, emotive, more contemplative tracks, recorded over a pretty short period of focused studio time. silver walks is a synth-led jam. the arpeggiator holds pride of place as the centre of the tune with filter tweaks complementing its progression. kuromaku has a tougher attitude - heady and cosmic with a deep kick. it means black curtain in japanese.

das ding, one of the legends of rotterdam, has been going since the early 80 s with his label tear apart tapes . he had releases on the finest of imprints such as minimal wave. now midlight will issue a some heat by the artist in subject with pride. these excerpts from das ding s modular techno setup were originally released on cassette by dehef, a most fine small imprint from rotterdam.

owain glyndwr has become a symbol of pride and freedom. he sacrificed everything for his dreams. where he died is not known, and the location of his grave has become one of the great mysteries of welsh history. owain attempted to capture the site of ‘chastiel bran’ or ‘crow castle’ in 1402. unfortunately he failed and the castle remains as a local monument to this very day. ccc1402 is the final chapter of the collectors quad pack, to celebrate that, we are even quad stamping the release for you in blood red ink. the music will speak for itself.

the detroit threads team is at the center of a community of vinyl enthusiasts that take pride in their individual approach to sound. this community struggles to keep their vision alive though the warmth of the medium that holds a special place in the heart, vinyl. as the electronic sound evolves new faces and styles emerge to challenge the establishment. detroit threads hears those voices and works to give them a platform. hou531 and .kite were chosen to represent detrot threads, because they are the yin and yang of the detroit dubstep movement. hou531 has a rambunchous method of creating grinding dubstep that is a release from a lifetime of detroit pressure. where as, .kite uses ethereal synth ambience sprinkled lightly with drum and bass to create an environment that is both sad and beautiful. these artists are under the radar, but by no means are they irrelevant.

spearheaded by stuart leath, emotional rescue is a label committed to unearthing forgotten gems and giving them the exposure they richly deserve, with all releases officially licensed by the artist and remastered in full. this 12 inch sees two classic tracks by the world music collective suns of arqa take pride of place. incorporating elements of raga and dub, >brujo magic< is a much more straightforward dancefloor number than its description would suggest, with its rolling bassline and vocoder effects fusing irresistibly with its psyche-rock styles. on the b-side, >ananta snake dance< combines traditional indian percussion and harmonium with conventional drumming to create something completely unique. a strong start to what will no doubt be an indispensable label.

a product of his surroundings, wasserfall creates organic, electronic music using an array of tools - including a nord modular g2x, a roland tr 909, a roland sp 404 sampler & an apogee ensemble – but dont think for one minute that its all about the gear, and that he is just a technical producer. field recordings feature heavily in his work, and you can often find him patrolling the streets of oslo or berlin hunting for the perfect sound that will convey his ideas within the piece. anders is just as at home creating scores for film as he is producing rhythms for the dance floor, during his time in berlin he created a contemporary soundtrack of the old russian silent-fim classic a man with a movie camera (dziga vertov 1929) which was performed live in berlin, bremen and in bergen. after all this is said and done, the e.p boils down to just one thing - house music for the heads. nothing lightweight, just the heavy goods. long time coming on vinyl, dont miss out on the result of a year of work getting it just right, if you managed to bag the previous #gcw vinyl you know we take absolute pride in our output. a strictly limited pressing. mastered to 180g vinyl by the one & only john dent @ loud mastering.

a new year, a new record. der turnbeutel brings its third vinyl into the recordstores. on the a-side you will find our old acquaintance datastix, who again show their lucky hands in finding the right track in these dark times of the year with their >penumbra<. it is accompanied by a remix from nadja lind (klartraum/lucidflow) – a remix that fills espacially the guys of datastix with a lot of pride. on the b-side clark davis turns his rounds with his >tretroller< (engl. scooter), a track which will drive the atomsphere on any dancefloor. the disk gets completed by a tretroller remix from andre kronert (night drive music), that comes so massive that even big boys can ride it smoothly.
